"With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;" -
Ephesians 4:2

Something God taught me recently through the meditation on His Word is that we are required to in love be meek, longsuffering, and forbear one another in love. What does this mean? Well I know that meekness and longsuffering are part of the Fruit of the Spirit. So its something that cannot be gained without the help of the Holy Spirit. Meekness is avoiding conflict, and longsuffering is being willing to calmly wait for a long time even when it is difficult. To forbear has to do with understanding that those with immaturity may need a little leniency. Being patient with them. They may not have the same level of social skills, but we are to forbear them, to look beyond these levels of immaturity and realize that God loves them. And its through God's love that we are able to do this.

Perfecting Patience

James 1:4 “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Interpretation:
James 1:4
Reference (location)
But let patience have
Allow patience (Webster’s 1828: A calm temper which bears evils without murmuring or discontent.)
her perfect work,
her finished; complete work (To be in action or motion; as the working of the heart.)
that ye may be perfect and entire,
We, God’s people, have completeness and be whole
wanting nothing.
having all of our desires and needs met in Christ.

Application:

We need to have patience in our life. The ability to have a calmness even when things are not going right. Not complaining. We need to allow patience to be complete and whole in our life. If we are inconsistent in our patience its not complete. To have our desires and needs met indicates a willingness to wait on the Lord. He is the giver of patience and the meeter of needs. The Holy Spirit in complete control of our lives will give us this complete and whole patience.

Start the year right!

Hello bloggers! I want to encourage you to start the year off right. Many Christians are in the air about God’s will for them. But truly God has certain things that are His will for every Christian. Here is are five things that every Christian should be faithful in doing.
1. Pray – Jesus said, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” Matt. 17:21
2. Study Your Bible – Paul said, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Tim. 2:15
3. Attend Church Faithfully- David said, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psa. 122:1
4. Give Your Tithe – I know you expected this, but it is one area will God asked us to prove Him by giving our tithe! Look in Malachi 3:10, “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].”
5. Witness to the Lost – Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Now if you are Christian with any level of faithfulness you most likely are at least doing number 3, and sometimes (God forgive you) number 1, 2 & 4. But the ugly truth is most of us do not witness to to others the way our Lord Jesus has instructed us. I would love for this to change for you and me in 2011! That is why I have invited Dr. David Wood, a World renowned soul winner & evangelist to share with us on the subject of witnessing to the lost! This will NOT be a dry lecture!! It will be dynamic, powerful, and full of the Holy Spirit leading. To attend, just set aside Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 10:00 – 12Noon. The seminar will be held at Grove City Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee! A prayer meeting will be at 8 A.M. with breakfast following for those who can attend. RSVP by emailing me at pastor@grovecitybaptistchurch.com or call Pastor Donald at (865) 254-2759.

Offerings of Thanksgiving

In the sixteenth chapter of First Chronicles we find King David instructing the children of Israel in the area of praise.  Israel had been blessed with so much and it was pleasing to the Lord God for them to offer sacrifices of praise to Him. If you know the Lord Jesus as your Savior, you too have been blessed with so much and should be in the habit of offering genuine praise to our Lord.  Because it truly is easier to complain or murmur than it is to praise, David gave instruction to the children of Israel in regards to praising the Lord God. Below is some of what I gleaned from God’s Word this morning in regards to offering Praise unto the Lord God. Also I would encourage you to read I Chronicles 16 and Psalm 107. Both these chapters are tied to offering thanksgiving to our Lord God.

1. Praise the Lord Jesus in public (I Chron. 16:8)

2. Sing songs that speak of His wonderful works (I Chron. 16:9)

3.  Hallow His name in conversation. Don’t joke about things that displease the Lord (I Chron. 16:10).

4. Seek the Lord continually (I Chron. 16:11).

5. Take time to meditate on God’s handiwork; such as answered prayers, His creation, and even His judgements (I Chron. 16:12).

6. Obey His Word. First Chronicles 16:15 says it this way, “Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.”

7. Remember to “give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.” (I Chron. 16:34)

Letter to Pastors

Dear Pastor,

RE: Revival Prayer Breakfast is this Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 8 A.M.

Brother Brother, I would like to remind you of a passage in our Holy Scriptures were the Lord Jesus asked the disciples to pray with Him for an hour (Mark 14:37,38). The truth is the disciples were weary and fell to sleep. Though they couldn’t have chosen a worse time to sleep. This was our Savior’s greatest hour. He was praying to our Heavenly Father regarding His upcoming crucifixion. In many ways we have also fallen to sleep, when we should be praying and watching.

This hour in church history is our greatest hour. Pastor’s are discouraged due to low attendance. The devil seems to be winning (though we know his end). The world is waxing worse and worse and the government (even our newly elected officials) do not have the answers. The Lord Jesus has given us the answers to all life’s problems in His Word. And He has called Pastors to preach this message of true hope in the only true God! But before we run to the pulpit, we must pray. We must come together, not to compromise ourselves, by yoking up with someone preaching a message contrary to God’s Word. But we must come together and pray, with a unified heart toward our Heavenly Father, pleading for Revival. Please come and pray with us at the upcoming Revival Prayer Breakfast. We will meet at 8 A.M. at Grove City Baptist Church. If you need directions or more information please call or visit our website.

Please RSVP to confirm your attendance. We will meet from 8 A.M. – 8:59 A.M. for prayer and testimonies. Then breakfast will be served at 9 A.M. sharp.

Thank you for your time and prayers. Don’t forget to R.S.V.P.

Praying for You,

Pastor Donald

Meditation for May 18, 2012

Proverbs 18:1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

Dissected and Defined:   Desire is an emotion of the mind directed to attain.  Separate means to disconnect.  To seek is to go in search of.  Intermeddleth is to take part in the affairs of others.

Paraphrased:  This can be taught in two ways.   The Spirit will tell you which is right.

The first is to say that people who isolate will eventually find themselves picking quarrels with everyone.  In other words, the most separated of Christians will, at times, use their separation as a reason to quarrel with others, usually at the cost of liberty to another.  That is not to say that separation is wrong, for I am a very separated believer.  But rather to say that separation is God’s standard, but quarreling  is the devil’s standard.

My understanding of this passage, more in line with the simplified “hidden” life, is that if you want to be wise, the Holy Spirit must take the controls of your life.  To do this, you will have to consistently separate and seek it.  That means if you will “disconnect yourself” from the rigors of life temporarily during the day and use that valuable retreat to “go in search” of Holy Spirit direction, then you will intermeddle with wisdom.

Now remember, wisdom in the New Testament age is yielding your skills in life to the Holy Spirit.  So when it tells us that we will intermeddle with wisdom, it is saying that we will be taking part in the affairs of the Holy Spirit.  Thus, I conclude that if you want to be heavily involved in the work of the Holy  Spirit, you are going to have to disconnect daily and interact with only Him during that time.

One final missing element is desire.  That is an emotion of the mind that is directed to attain.  You will never take part in the affairs of the Holy Spirit if you do not develop an appetite in your mind to attain that separation.  Without the separation from others, there is no union with God.  If you don’t, then the other application may be true for you.  You may be separated, but you are probably quarreling.
